Home appliance company moves production from Greece to Turkey

21 Οκτωβρίου, 2020

PITSOS, a leading manufacturer of household appliances, announced that it will stop production in Greece and move its factory to Turkey.
The factory is owned by BSH Hausgeräte GmbH and gives work to 700 people.
According to a letter from the Greek Metal Workers’ Union (POEM) to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, they demanded that this decision be reevaluated and warned that BHS-Pitsos’ ceasing of production will negatively impact Greece’s employment and exports.
PITSOS (Πίτσος) was founded in Athens in 1865 and began as a company manufacturing small household devices and oil heaters.
In 1959, it began production of fridges in a new factory and invested heavily on the production of a wide range of modern home devices, including TV sets.
Eighteen years later, in 1977 Pitsos was bought by BSH Hausgeräte GmbH.
Recently, the company was rebranded to “BSH Home Appliances” (“BSH Ikiakes Syskeves A.B.E”). It boasts a leading position in the Greek household appliances market with a market share of approximately 40%.
