Barty now top 10 for longest No. 1 streak and top 20 for prize money

14 Ιουλίου, 2021

In the wake of her landmark Wimbledon win, Ash Barty has
continued to write herself into the record books.

Her stunning victory over Karolina Pliskova in Saturday’s final was the first time an Australian woman has won at the All England Club since her idol Evonne Goolagong Cawley achieved the feat in 1980.
And as the dust settles on her famous victory, the sheer magnitude of Barty winning her second grand slam title is starting to hit home.

The 25-year-old has consolidated her place atop the women’s game, and is now clearly the best player on tour.

The world No. 1’s Wimbledon triumph saw her extend her lead in the rankings over second-placed Naomi Osaka to a very comfortable margin of nearly 2300 points.
Serena Williams’ first-round exit at Wimbledon resulted in her dropping out of the top 10 for the first time in more than two years.

Her withdrawal due to injury means she fell to 16th in the world, her lowest ranking since early 2019.

With Barty’s consistency a marker of her game, it is difficult to see anyone catching her and taking away the No. 1 ranking by the end of the season.
