The Australian swimmers continue to dazzle in the pool at the Tokyo Olympics.
That’s where Australia got its first gold, silver and bronze medals of the Games.
The Aussie women’s 4×100 metres freestyle relay team secured Australia’s first gold medal of the games in the opening pool session on day two.
And the team of Bronte Campbell, Cate Campbell, Meg Harris and Emma McKeon did so in world record time, besting the previous record set by the Aussies at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
It was Australia’s third consecutive Olympic gold medal in the event.
Australian Jack McLoughlin won silver in the men’s 400m freestyle, finishing behind Tunisia’s Ahmed Hafnaoui.
Aussie medal hopeful Elijah Winnington finished seventh in the event.
Brendon Smith won Australia’s first medal at the Tokyo Games, taking bronze in the men’s 400m individual medley.
The 21-year-old Smith dug deep to secure a medal with a huge final freestyle leg in what was a thrilling finish to the race won by American Chase Kalisz.
Rising Australian star Kaylee McKeown is now an Olympic champion, blitzing home to win the 100m backstroke final with an Olympic record time.
Fellow Aussie Emily Seebohm finished fifth, nearly a second behind 20-year-old McKeown, whose time of 57.47 seconds was only 0.02 seconds behind the world record time she set in June this year.

Australia won just two of their five group matches in Rio, narrowly missing out on the quarter finals. They started their Tokyo campaign with a loss.

After a shock first-up victory against Argentina, Graeme Arnold’s men had hoped to book passage into the next round with a victory over football giants Spain. But they still hold their Olympic destiny in their own hands.

The Boomers started their campaign against Nigeria with a win. Both Australia and Nigeria knocked off the United States of America in the Olympic warm-up games.
