The man, for some reason dressed as a ninja and carrying a sword, ‘walked’ the stuffed dog in Přemysla Otakara II, the main square of České Budějovice in South Bohemia
Lockdown rules in the Czech Republic state that no-one’s allowed out after 9 p.m without a good reason – for example walking a dog.
But the rules don’t exactly specify what kind of dog, which led one man from České Budějovice, in South Bohemia to get a little… “creative” with the regulations.
A TV crew shadowing police patrols happened to be on the scene when a man inexplicably dressed as a ninja was stopped “walking” a toy stuffed dog.
“I’m walking a dog here, I’m not doing anything illegal here,” the un-named man protested.
Police nevertheless demanded his ID card and gave him a stern warning.
“This really unusual case was finally resolved by the police by agreement,” České Budějovice police spokeswoman Věra Školková told reporters.
“The young man listened to the patrol warning and then went home. He regretted his actions.”
Followed up by local media the next day, the man tried to frame his actions as an artistic practical joke.
Speaking to local paper Mladá fronta Dnes, he denied that he said he “regretted” what he had done: “I was nervous, but I never said that I would regret anything and I do not regret anything yet,” he protested.
English-language news site Expats.cz reports a mixed response to the man’s actions on social media.
One person wrote: “Yeah, people did this in Italy too during the first lockdown. Police didn’t take it so well, though, and many were fined harshly.,”
Other people said it wasn’t the first time someone had tried to get around lockdown regulations in this way.
In March, a Romanian man took his goldfish for a “walk” in a plastic bag, and a woman tried a similar trick with a cat in handbag.
Similar ploys were also reported by some social media users in Serbia.3..2
