NSW has recorded one new community case of COVID-19.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian confirmed the new case is a man in his 50’s from south-east Sydney.
He is “very active in the community,” Ms Berejiklin said.
The man used QR codes to check in and out of venues, making contact tracing easier, Ms Berejiklian said.
“This person did everything right, but it goes to show we can’t take anything for granted.”
Contact tracing is underway at a number of locations across Sydney.
Even if you’ve been vaccinated, get tested
Health Minister Brad Hazzard said this is “a very clear reminder” that the risk of coronavirus remains, and people should get tested regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or not.
“People in the eastern suburbs particularly should be listening to these messages and getting tested,” Mr Hazzard said.
The man was initially tested on Tuesday, Dr Kerry Chant added, but is thought to have been infectious since Friday, April 30.
He hasn’t returned from overseas, worked in border roles or interacted with the hospital system, she added.
“This gentleman has not travelled but we need to keep our minds open,” Dr Chant said.
He has a “reasonable” number of close contacts, she said, as well as venue contacts that are still being investigated.
