NSW has recorded one additional new community case of COVID-19 overnight, after the wife of the man reported yesterday also returned a positive test.
As a result, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has introduced a range of new restrictions effective from 5PM tonight.
There were 11,579 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 13,543.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced new restrictions to come into effect for Greater Sydney, the Central Coast and the Illawarra.
The new restrictions are as follows:
- No more than 20 people to gather inside homes;
- No singing or dancing indoors, including places of worship and public venues. Wedding are exempt from this;
- Masks will become compulsory indoors, including on public transport, at supermarkets and events, as well as for hospitality workers;
- A limit of two visitors to aged care homes.
“We know that transmission in the family home is a high risk,” Ms Berejiklian said.”I appreciate that it’s Mother’s Day but we also appreciate that 20 people within the home is manageable for people to celebrate that important day.”The restrictions will come into force at 5pm today and are expected to be in place until midnight on Monday.However, Ms Berejiklian is asking that people follow the new rules immediately where possible.The rest of NSW is unaffected by the changes.
