Weetabix – the UK equivalent of Australia’s popular cereal brand Weet-Bix – has made a meal pairing suggestion that has outraged and shocked internet users.
In a tweet sent out on Tuesday night, the food giant said that baked beans on Weetabix was a perfect combo.
They even shared a picture of the breakfast duo, which people have labelled “an atrocity”.
The post, which soon went viral with more than 8000 comments and 30,000 quote tweets, also caused some rival food brands, hospitals and police to weigh in.
“Why should bread have all the fun, when there’s Weetabix? Serving up Heinz,” the tweet read.
“Beanz on bix for breakfast with a twist.”
Britain’s National Health Service felt that they needed to provide a medical opinion on the situation, commenting: “That tweet should come with a health warning.”
“No beans were harmed in the making of this breakfast,” Weetabix added cheekily.
West Yorkshire police said it was a food crime.
Fast food giants couldn’t resist getting involved in the action.
Dominos Pizza wrote: “Us: Pineapple on pizza is the most controversial food ever. Weetabix: Hold my spoon.”
The official twitter of fast food chain Nandos commented on Weetabix’s original post “You okay hun? DM’s are open if you need to talk,” to which KFC replied “Let’s set aside our differences to prosecute this under the Geneva Convention”.
“Let’s not get carried away!” Nandos responded.
KFC ended the breakfast banter by replying “Chicken”.
The verified account of Tinder UK said ‘Trust us, this is not a Match.”
“We’d swipe right,” Weetabix defended themselves.
Glasses company Specsavers wrote: “*removes glasses* *puts on blindfold*”.
Regular Twitter users said only an “animal” would eat beans on Weetabix.
Others called it a “bad idea” and said it should be “illegal”.
However, one person appears keen to try the odd food combination.
“I’ve never seen something more beautiful, or should I say…. bean-tiful,” they joked.
