Victoria has recorded three new local cases of COVID-19 as lockdown measures are extended for another seven days in Melbourne.
An 89-year-old man at Arcare Maidstone Aged Care is among the new cases and remains in hospital this morning.
The man, whose positive result was announced late yesterday, is the facility’s second residential infection and is the cousin of the first case found in a 99-year-old woman.
Three staff members have also tested positive at the aged care home.
The new cases bring the outbreak total to 63.A record number of people came forward for testing yesterday, with more than 57,500 results received.
The low case numbers today are positive news, with an infectious disease expert suggesting Melbourne’s lockdown could end early if coronavirus cases remain low and no mystery cases emerge.
