As Australians roll up their sleeves for COVID-19 vaccines, SBS News looks at which countries have vaccinated more of their population than others.
With COVID-19 vaccination drives underway in many countries, the world is starting to emerge from the pandemic.
But vaccinating the world’s 7.8 billion people is a feat that has never been attempted before and there have been issues around vaccine inequality, with the World Health Organization saying the divide is creating a “two-track pandemic”.
The Australian government has also come under criticism for its management of a slower than expected rollout that fell millions of doses short of its original goal.
But how do we compare the rest of the world?
Vaccination rates by country
The race is on to vaccinate the world against COVID-19. As of 15 June 2021, the number of total doses administered had reached 2.5 billion, with a recent average of 33.2 million doses per day.
The below chart shows a country’s progress in vaccinating its population per every 100 people. It displays the number of people partly vaccinated, defined as those who’ve received at least one vaccine dose, and the number of people fully vaccinated, defined as those who’ve received all doses prescribed by the vaccination protocol.
