Woman at centre of Sydney hotel quarantine breach speaks out

17 Σεπτεμβρίου, 2020

A Sydney woman who was caught breaching coronavirus rules in a quarantine hotel with an ADF member has spoken out about the incident.

The 26-year-old air force serviceman, who was in lockdown at the Pier One hotel in Sydney, was caught “entertaining” the 53-year-old on Tuesday.

She was a guest in the hotel.

The pair reportedly exchanged phone numbers and met up after holding up messages in their windows.

But other ADF members conducting security at the hotel caught the pair after hearing a female voice in the man’s room.

The woman was directed to check-out immediately, while the man remained in quarantine and police were notified.

“I was told by police that (the ADF member) tested negative not positive,” she told 7NEWS.

“I wasn’t required to get a test.”

The woman is not required to self-isolate unless she develops symptoms.

Both the man and woman were fined $1000.

The pair’s actions were slammed by Premier Gladys Berejiklian.

“There’s no understating how serious that event was,” she told reporters on Wednesday.

“Given we know that only one or two cases that get out undetected can cause absolute havoc.”
