6 January, 2026

Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand convenes Annual General Meeting in Sydney, held on Saturday, 3 January, at the conference facilities of the Branksome Hotel in Mascot.

The meeting brought together representatives from all member organisations of the Federation.

Proceedings opened in accordance with tradition with an Agiasmo blessing, conducted by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. In his address, His Eminence warmly welcomed delegates to Sydney and congratulated the Cretan Association of Sydney and New South Wales, hosts of the 44th National Cretan Federation Convention, as well as the Cretan Federation, for their continued dedication and work.

Following the blessing, formal reports were delivered by Federation President Emmanuel Mountakis, Secretary Sophia Komarkowski, and Treasurer Emmanuel Vitetzakis. The reports outlined the Federation’s activities, initiatives, and financial operations over the past year.

Representatives from each member association then presented reports on their local activities. This was followed by discussions on key matters, including preparations for the annual Battle of Crete commemorations, upcoming events, and broader administrative issues impacting the Federation.

The meeting concluded with the announcement that the next Annual Cretan Federation Convention will be held in Canberra in 2027.
