Dan Andrews linked to Capital Golf Club deal in post-politics business move

7 July, 2025

Former Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is reportedly connected to a consortium considering the purchase of Melbourne’s prestigious Capital Golf Club, currently owned by Crown Resorts.

The rumoured business venture marks a significant post-political move for Andrews, who has kept a relatively low public profile since leaving office in 2023. Known for his passion for golf and longstanding connections with key players in Melbourne’s elite circles, Andrews is said to be “in the mix” as Crown’s US parent company, Blackstone, explores selling off the Heatherton course.

The move has raised eyebrows, particularly given Andrews’ previous ties to Crown, and the billionaire Fox family, who reportedly expressed interest in the same property last year. The golf club was acquired by Crown in 2014 from developer Lloyd Williams—just months before a pre-election remark from Williams suggested Crown executive James Packer was “backing Andrews all the way”.

While no official statement has been made by Crown, insiders suggest discussions are well underway. Sources close to the matter believe Andrews’ involvement could help the deal proceed smoothly—and finally guarantee him access to a tee time at a top-tier Victorian course, something he’s reportedly struggled to obtain through traditional membership channels.

Andrews’ affinity for golf is well known in political and social circles, with many speculating that this latest venture could be the first of several business deals as he cements his role in Melbourne’s post-political elite.

So far, Crown has remained tight-lipped, refusing to confirm or deny any current negotiations regarding Capital Golf Club. The company’s silence has only fuelled speculation, especially as interest in the club has surged in recent months.

If confirmed, the deal could reshape the dynamics of elite sport and power in Victoria—blending politics, private capital, and leisure in a uniquely Melbourne fashion.
