Eras of South Melbourne FC: Historic Mural Unveiled

20 August, 2025

The proud history of South Melbourne FC (Hellas) was celebrated with emotion and admiration last Saturday, August 16, 2025, as the club unveiled a striking new mural inside its hall.

The large-scale artwork, which now dominates the venue’s interior, depicts portraits of players from across different eras of the club’s history. Combining visual storytelling with written elements, the mural captures the enduring spirit of South Melbourne FC (Hellas) — a club looking ahead to the future while paying tribute to its remarkable past.

The unveiling ceremony drew a diverse gathering of guests, including members of the press, former players who represented the club across various decades, team sponsors, and the Board of Directors. The moment served not only as an artistic celebration but also as a symbolic reminder of the legacy and community that South Melbourne FC continues to build.

The mural was conceived and executed by artists Kostas Drosos, Giorgos Kouroumalis, and Tony Margaritis, whose creative vision transformed the idea into reality. Importantly, the project was made possible through the generosity of the club’s members, who funded the work as a collective donation.

Club representatives hailed the mural as a permanent reminder of the values, achievements, and people who have shaped South Melbourne FC identity over generations, reinforcing the strong bond between the team, its history, and its supporters.
