Sakkari: Into the quarter-finals of the Charleston Open – Climbs to world No.6

5 April, 2024

Maria Sakkari has advanced to the quater-finals of the Charleston Open, defeating Australian Astra Sharma 6-4, 6-1 in the round of 16 in South Carolina.

This is the third consecutive quarterfinal for the Greek tennis player.

Regardless of her performance in the remainder of the tournament, Maria Sakkari will climb to No.6 in the world ranking, taking advantage of the defeat of Ons Jabuer’s loss to Danielle Collins.

The Tunisian tennis player, who until recently was ranked No.6 in the world, lost 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 and bid farewell to the tournament in Charleston very early. This elimination resulted in Jabuer losing several points, as she was defending her title from last year at that tournament.

Sakkari will now meet world no.9 Veronika Kudermetova in the quater-final.
