Vale: Peter Jasonides

2 July, 2024

Peter Jasonides passed away prematurely yesterday morning, at the age of 62, sending into mourning family, friends, colleagues, but also a large part of our community who knew him closely during his many years of involvement within the community.

As Litsa Athanasiadis, his colleague and close friend, told TA NEA, Peter was facing serious health problems, especially in the last year and a half, and finally passed away yesterday morning from an intracerebral hematoma.

She, visibly devastated, said she was particularly saddened by the loss of her “brotherly friend”. In fact, it was a post of hers that essentially announced the loss of Peter.

“My brother Peter, have a good paradise.  There are some things you share with some people that stain your soul,” she wrote on her personal Facebook account.

The President of the Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne and Victoria, Peter Stefanidis, also expressed his sadness for the sudden loss of Mr Jasonides.

“We are all devastated by this news. The entire family of Pan-Macedonian Association mourns for his loss and sends its warm condolences to his family and his relatives”, he said.

Peter had two children with his beloved wife Eleni, George and Natole.  Last year they celebrated the 35th anniversary of their marriage.

Peter Jasonides, had served as President of the Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne and Victoria and President of the Federation of Pan-Macedonian Associations of Australia.  He is regarded by many as “the soul” of the Pontiaki Estia and was the owner and Director of the ITHEA Educational Institution.

Greek Media Group expresses its deepest sorrow at the sudden death of Peter Jasonides and extends its sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

Press Release: Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne and Victoria – Vale: Peter Jasonides

The Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne and Victoria is deeply mourning the loss of one of Macedonia’s most passionate and committed sons, Peter Jasonides.

Peter Jasonides served as President of our Association twice, each time pouring his heart and soul into leading our community through extremely challenging and tumultuous periods. His tireless dedication and unwavering commitment to preserving our identity and advocating for our community’s interests are profoundly evident in many of our achievements, both locally and internationally.

Pan-Macedonian President Peter Stefanidis, who served as Secretary of the Federation of Pontian Associations of Australia under the leadership of Peter Jasonides, reflected on his impact: “Whether we agreed or disagreed, whether you were on the same page or not, there was one thing everyone could always agree on: He was a passionate and brilliant Hellene who always made an impact in what he put his mind to. Both the Pontian Federation and Pan-Macedonian Association were forever changed because of his leadership, and I, for one, would probably not have been on the path I’ve travelled for the last 22 years had it not been for him.”

The Board of Directors, the members of the Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne and Victoria, and every affiliate Macedonian organisation throughout Australia convey our deepest sympathies to his wife Helen and his children Natole and George. Their unwavering support allowed Peter Jasonides to accomplish so much, and we will forever be grateful for it.

In closing, we honor Peter Jasonides with a quote from one of his greatest heroes—a quote that epitomizes his spirit and beliefs and one that he often included in his correspondence as President:

«Ξηρανθήτω ημίν ο λάρυγξ εάν επιλαθώμεθά σου ω Πάτριος Ποντία γη» – Leonidas Iasonides (1884 – 1959)

May the earth rest lightly upon you, son of Macedonia, son of Pontos, son of Greece.

Sincerest Regards,

Peter Stefanidis
President
