11 December, 2024

Former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett has been awarded the Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne and Victoria’s prestigious “Alexander The Great Award” for Lifetime Achievement, in recognition of his enduring contributions to Hellenism and the Macedonian cause.

The award, presented in a special ceremony on December 11, marks the 30th anniversary of Mr. Kennett’s historic statement in 1994, when he declared, “Macedonia is Greek”, on the steps of Victoria’s Parliament House.

His steadfast support for the Greek identity of Macedonia, which remains an important part of the Greek community’s shared heritage, has left a lasting legacy in Australia.

Pan-Macedonian Association President Peter Stefanidis personally presented this prestigious award to Mr. Kennett, reflecting on the significance of the declaration and its lasting impact on the Macedonian Hellenism.

“It is a profound honour that the first Lifetime Achievement Award presented during my presidency is awarded to someone who has had such a transformative impact on the Macedonian cause and on my personal journey. Mr. Kennett’s declaration 30 years ago continues to resonate deeply within our community”, Mr. Stefanidis said.

Mr. Kennett, in turn, expressed his continued support for the community’s evolving role. He showed enthusiasm for the Association’s new cultural initiatives and future engagement strategies, offering his ongoing support to help achieve these goals.

The Pan-Macedonian Association thanked Mr. Kennett  for graciously accepting this award and for his tireless dedication to the values of Hellenism.
