For the first time, PASOK officially mentioned the prospect of calling elections in connection with the OPEKEPE scandal, on the condition that the statute of limitations for any offenses will be prevented.
During the meeting of the Coordinating Political Center, the party was thoroughly briefed on the OPEKEPE management incidents from 2017 to 2025, and parliamentary initiatives were discussed to investigate the criminal responsibilities of the involved ministers from the New Democracy party.
PASOK criticized the overall failure of the “executive state,” highlighting the incompetence in administration and management, which it attributed to corruption and patronage-based choices. The party also stated that it would organize teams of party members to tour Greece, focusing the agenda on the agricultural sector.
Once the processes ensuring the non-expiry of the offenses are completed, PASOK’s only solution is elections and political change.
The government’s response
In response to Nikos Androulakis’ statements on the OPEKEPE scandal, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis accused him of conducting sterile opposition. He defended the government’s policy on the agricultural sector, noting tax cuts and support for farmers, as well as the reform of OPEKEPE. Marinakis revealed that checks on subsidies would begin immediately, with those responsible being asked to return any wrongly paid funds. He also supported the transfer of OPEKEPE to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) as a measure of reform, rather than a response to European pressures.
