Irene Mourtzoukou, the 25-year-old woman currently in custody after confessing to the deaths of four infants, has now sent a legal notice from prison targeting Popi, the mother of Panagiotakis — the fifth baby whose death is under investigation.
As the forensic committee prepares to release its report on the death of young Panagiotakis in the coming days, Mourtzoukou has taken an unexpected legal step. From her prison cell, she issued an official legal notice (extrajudicial declaration) to her former friend Popi, demanding that she hand over her personal medical file to the authorities.
According to a report by Mega, Mourtzoukou claims she is aware of every move Popi has made, including all complaints Popi allegedly filed with the police. Furthermore, she accuses Popi of withholding her medical file, despite repeated requests and appeals for its release.
Her lawyer, Nikos Alexandris, said this legal action is “the first in a series of steps” aimed at proving Mourtzoukou’s innocence in the case of Panagiotakis. “Perhaps it’s those truly responsible for Panagiotakis’ death who should start being afraid,” Alexandris added, implying that Mourtzoukou may attempt to shift blame as her case unfolds.
While the Greek public remains shocked by the initial confessions regarding the four infant deaths, this new development raises fresh questions about the broader investigation, relationships between those involved, and the potential existence of additional evidence yet to surface.
Authorities are continuing their inquiries, and the expected findings from the medical examiners are likely to shed more light on the mysterious and tragic death of baby Panagiotakis.
