9 September, 2025

The meeting held on Monday morning (8/9) between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos, at the Maximou Mansion, once again highlighted the close cooperation between the State and the Church and the prospects opening for the new period.

Welcoming the head of the Church of Greece, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized the importance of institutional continuity and constructive communication, noting: “It is a great pleasure to welcome you again, with feelings of appreciation and respect. As we are at the beginning of both the political and ecclesiastical year, this is an opportunity to exchange views, address pending issues, and reaffirm the excellent level of cooperation between the State and the Church of Greece.”

The Prime Minister reminded that in recent years both sides had managed to resolve long-standing matters, stating: “We have achieved significant progress, settling problems that had been pending for years, and we are now prepared to face together the major challenges of our time.”

For his part, Archbishop Ieronymos expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s willingness to maintain steady communication with the government. He stressed: “I deeply appreciate that, despite your many responsibilities, you always find the time to discuss and jointly decide on issues of importance. This consistent dialogue fills us with optimism.”

The discussion focused on continuing the constructive relationship and strengthening institutional cooperation, which is regarded as a cornerstone for addressing both social and national issues that require unity and responsibility.
