In a speech that caused a stir, Donald Trump fully exploited the podium of the UN General Assembly in New York, turning his address into political theatre.
For nearly an hour, the American president attacked everyone—from the UN and the European Union to Russia, which he accused of prolonging the war in Ukraine and obstructing peace.
In his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, Donald Trump turned the podium into a platform of fierce rhetorical confrontation. He directed heavy criticism at the UN, the European Union, Russia, and climate policy, accusing many of undermining national sovereignty and economic prosperity.
He began by attacking the UN, claiming it failed to support his peace efforts: “I’ve ended seven wars and never got a call from the UN,” he said. He also accused the UN of “funding the migration crisis,” supporting illegal migrants with resources, and described the body’s intervention in border policy as an “assault” on Western nations.
Next, Trump turned to the European Union, ridiculing its green policies as a scam (“green scam”) and arguing they weaken Western economies and cultural identity. He argued European countries must abandon such policies or face collapse.
Trump made a pointed mention of Greece, citing Council of Europe data that 54% of inmates in Greek prisons are foreign nationals, using it to justify harsher immigration policies.
On Russia, Trump accused Vladimir Putin of prolonging the war in Ukraine, called on NATO to shoot down Russian fighters violating member airspace, threatened punitive tariffs on Moscow, and blamed Russia for global instability.
Regarding climate, Trump doubled down on denial: he called climate change “the greatest con job ever perpetrated,” dismissed UN projections as “wrong” and “made by stupid people,” and claimed renewable energy investments were economically ruinous.
His speech—far exceeding the 15-minute limit—blended campaign rhetoric with international policy pronouncements. With provocative language, sustained attacks, and calls for a shift in global alignment, Trump sent a clear message of disagreement toward the UN, European leaders, and Russia — yet left unanswered questions about how his tone will affect cooperation on critical global challenges.
