Mystery in Victoria’s high country as two female bodies discovered by hikers

4 October, 2025

A grim discovery in Victoria’s high country has left authorities searching for answers after two female bodies were found in a remote area.

Police said two hikers came across the bodies at Ledenfield Point around 12:50pm on Friday and immediately alerted emergency services. The women, believed to be aged in their 20s or 30s, may have been hiking or camping in the area before their deaths.

Due to the challenging terrain and isolation of the location, police camped overnight to secure the scene and continue their investigation.

At this stage, the deaths are not being treated as suspicious, but inquiries remain ongoing as detectives work to establish the women’s identities.

Victoria Police have appealed to the public for assistance, noting that there are currently no missing persons reports matching the description of the deceased.

Forensic examinations are expected to take place in the coming days to determine the cause of death, while investigators search for personal belongings or clues that may confirm who the women were.

The discovery has shocked the local community and renewed concern about safety in Victoria’s rugged and remote high country, where unpredictable weather and difficult access can pose serious risks to visitors.
