147 pistols and 190 magazines found – Defendants claim ignorance

Greek authorities have released dramatic footage showing the arrest of 13 Turkish nationals near Soufli, Evros, after they illegally crossed into Greece carrying a large cache of weapons.

Following their court appearances, six of the detainees were remanded in custody, with the prosecutor and investigating judge agreeing on the decision.

The group was arrested on October 3, with 147 pistols and 190 magazines found hidden inside two suitcases and several bags.

In video footage broadcast on SKAI TV, the men are seen kneeling with their hands raised, as border guards shout commands for them to get down and surrender.

Lawyers representing the detainees said their clients deny any knowledge of the weapons, claiming they were unaware of the contents of their luggage. The charges include illegal entry into Greece, as well as importing, possessing, and transporting firearms.

The remaining seven suspects are set to testify tomorrow, facing the same charges. Authorities are investigating the possibility of an organized arms smuggling network.
