Greece emerges as a key energy security partner in U.S. talks

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a high-level meeting at the Maximou Mansion with U.S. officials, including Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, ahead of the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the Transatlantic Energy Partnership (P-TEC) in Athens on November 6–7, 2025.

During the meeting, the strategic importance of Greek-American relations and energy cooperation was reaffirmed. Mitsotakis highlighted Greece’s pivotal role in the Vertical Corridor project and its LNG terminal infrastructure in Revythousa and Alexandroupolis, positioning the country as a regional energy hub reaching as far as Moldova and Ukraine.

The Prime Minister emphasized the strategic value of Greek shipping in LNG transportation and welcomed the simultaneous presence of ExxonMobil and Chevron in Greece as a vote of confidence in the country’s energy sector.

U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle described the occasion as historic, noting that more than 80 U.S. officials were attending the conference to underline the strength of the bilateral partnership.

Secretary Burgum stressed that energy diplomacy underpins global peace and prosperity, while Secretary Wright highlighted Greece’s commercial leadership and potential in energy and AI sectors.

Deputy Secretary of State Michael Rigas noted multiple ongoing agreements to deepen U.S.-Greece ties, emphasizing continued collaboration in diplomatic and strategic initiatives.

The meeting brought together senior officials from both countries, signaling Greece’s growing role as a regional energy and strategic hub in Europe.
