Emergency crews rushed to Brisbane Airport on Thursday evening after a Virgin Australia aircraft experienced a small brake fire moments after landing.
The Boeing 737, operating flight VA454 from Darwin, touched down shortly before 7pm when smoke and flames were noticed coming from the landing gear. Four aviation fire and rescue trucks were deployed and quickly brought the situation under control.
All 180 passengers and crew members on board were able to disembark safely, with no injuries reported.
Footage shared on social media showed firefighters working on the tarmac as smoke rose from one of the aircraft’s wheels.
In a statement, a Virgin Australia spokesperson praised the “swift response” of both the flight crew and airport firefighters.
“The safety of our guests and crew is always our highest priority,” the airline said.
The Boeing 737 will undergo inspection by Virgin Australia’s engineering team before returning to service.
Authorities confirmed that no flights were delayed and operations at Brisbane Airport continued as normal throughout the evening.
