Greek police have arrested two Ukrainian nationals, aged 29 and 38, accused of the brutal murder of a 31-year-old compatriot in his apartment in Agios Panteleimon, central Athens.
The shocking crime, committed on October 10, 2025, had sparked widespread concern in the local community.
According to the Hellenic Police, the two suspects targeted the victim, possibly over financial or personal disputes, and attacked his roommate to gain access to the apartment. Under threat, the roommate was forced to open the door, allowing the intruders to enter.
Once inside, the assailants allegedly beat and tortured the 31-year-old victim to death before stealing various items, including tools, electronic equipment and valuables from a safe. The autopsy confirmed multiple injuries consistent with prolonged physical assault, indicating extreme violence and cruelty.
Following the murder, the suspects fled the scene and went into hiding. Over the following weeks, officers from the Homicide Division of the Attica Security Directorate conducted extensive investigations, gathering DNA samples, analysing phone data, and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby buildings.
This evidence led to the identification and arrest of the two men earlier this week.
Searches at their residences uncovered clothing worn during the attack, a small amount of cannabis, ammunition, and a revolver believed to have been illegally possessed. One of the suspects attempted to escape during the police operation but was quickly captured.
Both men have been charged with intentional homicide, robbery, unlawful detention, and violations of laws on weapons and narcotics. They appeared before the Athens prosecutor and were remanded in custody pending trial.
Police sources described the murder as “particularly heinous,” noting that it demonstrated an unprecedented level of violence even for cases involving personal disputes. The investigation remains open as authorities continue to determine whether other individuals were involved in planning or assisting the crime.
