“Medusa 14”: A Greek–Egyptian message of strength and deterrence in the southeastern Mediterranean

20 November, 2025

The large-scale air–naval exercise “Medusa 14” is in full progress in the wider area of Alexandria, Egypt, from 16 to 26 November.

The exercise, which began a decade ago as a bilateral joint-operation initiative between Greece and Egypt, has now evolved into one of the most complex and multinational drills in the Southeastern Mediterranean. Forces from Cyprus, France, and Saudi Arabia are participating, while observers from Italy, the United States, Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Kuwait, and several other countries are also present.

Against the backdrop of rising instability in the Middle East and intensified competition over the control of maritime routes and energy corridors, “Medusa 14” carries significant operational value while simultaneously sending a clear signal of deterrence.

Greece and Egypt, together with their partners, are projecting at the entrance of the Suez Canal a multinational air–naval force capable of operating in a multi-threat environment — at sea, in the air, and on land.
