Salamina murder: security camera audio exposes 46-year-old daughter-in-law for brutal killing of 75-year-old

26 November, 2025

New evidence from security cameras has led Greek authorities to arrest a 46-year-old woman for the murder of her 75-year-old mother-in-law in Salamina, a killing she has now confessed to.

According to police, a combination of audio recordings and nearby video footage proved decisive. In the video, broadcast by Mega, the suspect’s car is seen driving away from the victim’s residence moments after the attack. Investigators also discovered traces of the victim’s blood inside the vehicle, further confirming her involvement.

Although the suspect tampered with the home’s cameras—turning them away and covering her face—she made one critical mistake: she did not disable the audio. The 35-minute recording captured the elderly woman reciting the “Our Father” in her final moments, unaware that the intruder was not a stranger but her own daughter-in-law.

Police say the 46-year-old entered the property wearing a mask and gloves, armed with a tool, after breaking a window. Her goal, she claimed, was to steal €1,100 to replace money she had previously lost to gambling—money her husband had promised to return to his mother.

According to her statement, the victim had earlier entrusted €10,000 to her son for safekeeping, which later disappeared. To make amends, he returned €8,000 and was preparing to give her the remaining €2,000. He had managed to gather €1,100 when his wife allegedly stole and gambled it away.

Afraid the theft would be discovered, the suspect decided to secretly take money from the victim to replace the missing amount. Once inside, however, the confrontation escalated. Believing she had been recognised, the 46-year-old struck the woman with a bottle and then, in what she described as panic, grabbed a knife and fatally stabbed her.

She then returned home, washed her clothes and disposed of them.

The killing occurred on Friday, October 31 at midday. Investigators initially examined all possibilities, interviewing relatives and anyone with access to the home. After extensive analysis of the digital evidence, police closed in on the suspect, who eventually broke down and confessed.
