Factory blaze burns out of control in Dandenong South

13 December, 2025

A major factory fire has torn through an industrial site in Dandenong South, with fire crews battling throughout the early hours of Saturday to bring the escalating blaze under control.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews were called to the scene on Lanyon Street shortly after 6am, responding to reports of a rapidly spreading fire inside a factory complex. More than 16 firefighting vehicles were dispatched, with crews donning breathing apparatus as they worked in hazardous smoke-filled conditions.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also attended, supporting the response and monitoring the safety of nearby businesses and roads. By 7.30am, the fire remained out of control, with firefighters working to prevent the flames from spreading to adjoining structures.

The incident comes only days after a separate major industrial fire at a cigarette lighter factory on Kimberley Road sent thick black smoke across several south-eastern suburbs. Witnesses reported hearing “loud explosions” as that blaze took hold, prompting significant concern over industrial safety in the region.

A VicEmergency Advice alert issued on Saturday morning confirmed there was no immediate threat to the wider community from the Lanyon Street fire, but urged residents to remain informed and avoid the area while emergency services continued operations.

Authorities are expected to investigate the cause once the site is deemed safe, with early indications suggesting extensive damage to the affected structure.

Dandenong South, a major manufacturing and logistics hub, has experienced several high-profile industrial incidents in recent years, renewing calls for stronger oversight, more rigorous fire controls and improved hazard management across the precinct.
