Machetes used in Melbourne assault after man jumps from moving car

24 December, 2025

Police have confirmed that machetes were used in a violent assault in Melbourne earlier this week, after a man jumped from a moving car in an attempt to escape his attackers.

The incident occurred just after 10pm on Monday, December 22, on McGregor Street in Pakenham. Witnesses reported hearing a male voice calling for help from a grey Toyota Yaris. Several bystanders filmed the chase as the car sped through the streets.

The car eventually slowed on Homestead Road in Berwick, giving the man an opportunity to leap from the vehicle and attempt to flee on foot. However, the Yaris came to a stop and three individuals were seen exiting the car and attacking him with machetes before driving off.

Witnesses quickly assisted the victim, transporting him to a nearby carpark to await emergency services. Ambulance Victoria confirmed that advanced life support paramedics treated a 23-year-old man for upper body injuries sustained during the attack.

Police continue to investigate the incident, appealing for any further witnesses or dashcam footage that may help identify the suspects.
