Group of 20 youths clash at Brighton Pier, 16-year-old arrested

29 December, 2025

A violent clash involving around 20 teenagers erupted at Brighton Pier on Sunday afternoon, prompting a significant police response, including deployment of the air wing.

Victoria Police arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the incident, which marks the latest escalation in youth violence across Melbourne’s beaches.

Police were called to reports of fighting near the Bay Trail at Brighton Pier at approximately 5:15 PM. During the brawl, an 18-year-old male sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The 16-year-old was interviewed by authorities and subsequently released, though he is expected to face charges on summons. Other participants fled the scene before police arrived.

This latest incident comes shortly after a group of 150 teenagers stormed a Woolworths supermarket and clashed with police at Mordialloc Beach earlier this month, part of what authorities have described as a series of “brat pack” incidents along Melbourne’s beaches.

Victoria Police have confirmed that investigations into the Brighton clash are ongoing. They are urging anyone who witnessed the fight or has footage or information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential online report via www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

Authorities warn that these violent gatherings pose significant safety risks to both participants and the wider community and have called on parents and guardians to remain vigilant.
