It was a packed house in the Hellenic Museum courtyard last Saturday for the launch of the Summer Cinema program for 2019.
The program opened with Love and Blood, the story of star-crossed lovers lighting up the silver screen in this well-loved Greek cinematic classic.
Melbourne’s weather was in fabulous form. The warm summer evening was the perfect accompaniment as filmgoers of all ages gathered in the leafy courtyard of the Museum to enjoy the film along with mouth-watering food and beverages from Grounds of Arcadia.
This Saturday, the Museum will be screening the 1954 film Barefoot Battalion.
A heart-warming story of the nearly one hundred and sixty orphans who were expelled from the city’s orphanage by the Nazis, during the German occupation of Greece.
The score is performed by the Symphony Orchestra of Athens and the film was the first Greek film to win a prize at an international film festival.
Summer Cinema runs across February and into March in the courtyard of the Hellenic Museum and includes a diverse lineup of Greek cinema classics.
In true outdoor cinema style, film-goers will also be able to casually dine before and during the screening.
On the menu is wood-fired slow roasted lamb, freshly baked spanakopita, sumptuous mezze platters accompanied by Greek inspired cocktails, beers and wines.
The Museum’s courtyard will be open from 6pm and the screening commences at sunset.
