Greek Islands you don’t need a car!

16 July, 2019

Forget the noise of the city and relax with the sound of the waves! These are the most beautiful Greek islands where the last thing you need is a car! Haven’t you booked your ferry ticket yet?

Spetses

Spetses is a wonderful Greek island of the Argosaronic gulf with an easy access from Athens as it is just a 2-3 hours with a ferry and you can also drive to the nearest port and get a small boat to cross the sea and get to the port of Spetses.
Even if you wanted you wouldn’t be able to drive a car in the heart of the island around the port as cars are banned. The only way you can move around are horses, bicycles and water taxis! A gorgeous island with stunning beaches, amazing food and local gastronomy, cosmopolitan and posh, but still traditional with a relaxed vibe. Spetses is an ideal destination all year round!

Hydra

Another gem of the Argosaronic Gulf is Hydra! Located just close to Athens with a stunning architecture, unique surroundings, stone built alleys and houses everywhere, sophisticated style and very artistic vibe. Hydra is a great choice for any time of the year if you want to escape the city and find  your place in the sun. Even in winter the weather is not very cold and you will enjoy walking around the alleys, the port and the hill above the port. Hydra is a great choice for family travellers, solo travellers and those who travel with their friends.

Ios

Ios is the party island of the Cyclades! It is the paradise on earth for youngsters from around the globe that gather here every summer to enjoy its unique vibe, beauty and vibrant nightlife.

Ios is not a big island but apart from this, the bus routes are plenty and you can literally get anywhere you want on the island with a bus so a car is not necessary at all.

The only problem you may have is after midnight if you live very far from Chora as taxis are not enough to satisfy the big demand.

Agistri

Agistri island is a romantic escape just an hour away from Athens. You can get here with a ferry all year round that takes only one hour.

The routes are plenty on a a daily basis and the price of the ticket very low.

Agistri is a beautiful little island with friendly locals, good food and some nice bars to get a good drink by the sea. Agistri is also ideal for a visit all  year round. As it is not a big island you can get everywhere you want with a bus or even a bicycle as it is a great choice for those who love cycling surrounded by a great natural environment and fresh air!

Agistri is very close to Aigina island which is also ideal for a weekend escape all year round for all types of travellers.
