Bourtha Cup 2019

27 November, 2019

The 33rd Bourtha Cup was held on Sunday 24th November 2019, at Club Mandalay Golf Course in Beveridge. The Cup is contested twice a year and with only a few exceptions has been played every 6 months since 2000.

A field of 30 players turned out at one of Australia’s top up and coming courses, with broad fairways and a bevy of bunkers.

The Bourtha Cup was started by a group of friends, some fanatical about golf, others more interested in an enjoyable day out.

The competition is run on Stableford rules allowing anyone from a high to a low handicap a fair chance of winning.

Prizes were awarded for Closest to the Tee and Longest Drives (on both the front and back nine), Nick Gatzonis and Denny Fatekas (longest drives) and Arthur Athanasopoulos and Bryce Kane (closes to the pin).
Emerging victorious was past-winner Dennis Vergopoulos with a score of 42 Stableford points.

Second place went to Con Devitsakis with a well-deserved score of 37, and in third Joel Allen on 36 pts.

With another 5 players also scoring 36 pts, Joel pulled clear with a 91 off the stick.

The participants are now looking forward to the 20th anniversary events next year.
