On Saturday, 15 November, 500 attendees took part in a historic event where the Lemnian Community of Victoria and the Kontias–Agios Dimitrios Association came together after 65 years to jointly organise a double celebration: the Liberation of their beloved island, Lemnos, as well as the feast of Agios Dimitrios.
Guests enjoyed abundant food and drinks along with a series of high-quality entertainment performances. All attendees expressed their congratulations and admiration to the two committees for the long-awaited union into one group that came together to celebrate the island of Lemnos.
The esteemed Presidents, Mr. Efthymios Valanidas and Mr. Nektarios Parissis, stated that “the event concluded at 1 a.m., and the venue remained full—no one wanted to leave.”
They continued, saying that “guests were leaving limping with sore feet from so much dancing; everyone was at the peak of joy!”
“We are proud and deeply grateful to the Members of the Boards of Directors of both organisations, who worked tirelessly and united—something that has not happened here in Victoria for the past 65 years.”
“To see the Lemnians of Melbourne and their friends, of all ages, come together like one big happy family to unite and celebrate was truly moving—there were people everywhere!”
“It would be a major omission not to wholeheartedly thank all the sponsors and the abundance of donations and gifts for our raffle and auction items—so many that they cannot all be mentioned. Everyone wanted to help and contribute.”
The two presidents added that the two committees are already working on future collaborations and look forward to seeing all Lemnians and their friends at their upcoming events.
