The Fair Work Commission’s decision increases wages for hundreds of thousands of aged care employees.
The Australian government announced today further wage increases for aged care workers following a decision by the Fair Work Commission. The increases recognize the significant contributions of aged care employees to the economy and society and aim to make the profession more attractive to younger Australians.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers said: “Aged care workers do an incredible job and deserve every dollar of this pay rise. This investment acknowledges their vital contribution and provides greater incentives for young Australians to pursue a career in aged care.”
Registered nurses at level 2, pay point 3 – the most common level among registered nurses – will receive an additional $60.20 per week. Combined with previous federal wage increases, this represents roughly $28,000 extra per year. Enrolled nurses at level 2 will see a weekly increase of $62.40, while personal care workers on level 3 will gain $39.50 per week.
Employment Minister Amanda Rishworth highlighted that these increases help reduce the gender pay gap, while Aged Care Minister Sam Rae noted that workers had been systematically undervalued and deserve greater recognition. The government also announced further wage increases starting August 2026 for registered and enrolled nurses.
