19 April, 2024

A plot to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski has been foiled with the arrest of a man in Poland. The Polish suspect is accused of passing sensitive information about the Ukrainian president to Russian intelligence in order to serve Moscow’s plans.

The suspect, Pavel K., faces up to 8 years in prison after confessing to his involvement in the assassination attempt. He was supposed to gather information on the security of Rzeszów-Jasionka airport, which Zelenski uses for his travels.

The suspect admitted that his mission was to help Russian special services plan a possible attack on the Ukrainian leader. “My mission was to help Russian special services plan a possible attack” on the Ukrainian leader, the suspect said, according to the Polish prosecutor’s office.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, several assassination attempts against President Zelensky have been reported.
