The British Counter-Terrorism Unit announced that the suspect behind the attack at a synagogue in the Crumpsall area of Manchester, which left two people dead, has been identified as 35-year-old Jihad al-Sami, a British citizen of Syrian descent.
At the same time, police confirmed that three individuals have been arrested – two men in their early 30s and a woman around 60 years old. All three are being held on charges of committing, preparing, and inciting terrorist acts.
Al-Sami was killed by police gunfire at the scene. Authorities confirmed the deaths of two men at the site of the attack, while three other individuals were hospitalized in serious condition. According to official reports, one of the injured was stabbed, another was struck by the vehicle used by the attacker, and the third arrived at the hospital later with injuries likely sustained when police intervened to stop the assailant.
Police clarified that the official identification process of the victims is ongoing, while investigations continue to determine the motives behind the attack.
