Melbourne’s suburbs have once again been shaken by a violent home invasion in Camberwell, where two men armed with hammers and a baseball bat threatened a family of four.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, around 3 a.m., at a property on Kirkwood Drive.
Police reported that one of the offenders confronted the 46-year-old father, demanding his car keys before stealing the family’s vehicle, a white Jeep Cherokee. The second offender waited outside during the attack. Both men then fled in the stolen vehicle and remain at large. Fortunately, no one in the household was physically injured.
This invasion comes just two days after a 76-year-old grandmother in Brighton East bravely confronted knife-wielding intruders in her home. The grandmother, Pat, described waking to an “enormous bang” and facing two masked men in her lounge, demanding her car keys. She called for tougher sentences for offenders, highlighting the perceived leniency for youth crimes.
Home invasions in Victoria have reached record levels this year amid rising concerns over public safety. Authorities are urging anyone with information on these incidents to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.
