Greek authorities have put portals from Italy on high alert. More than 100 people are confirmed to have coronavirus in Italy and in the past two days SIX people have died.
Greece is taking emergency mea-sures at the ports of Patras and Igoumenitsa, where transfer of goods from Italian ports is conducted.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Health, and based on the new epidemiological data of the new coronavirus, the National Public Health Organization (EHEA) “continues targeted actions to inform and raise awareness in regards to third country visitors to the country’s entry portals, by issuing news and posters at airports and ports ”.
At the same time, according to the Ministry of Health: “Next Thursday in Piraeus, an educational program will be held, in partnership with EU Healthy Gateways, entitled ‘Public Health Measures at Entrance Gates and Means of Transport (Ships, Airplanes)’”.
The Greek authorities, alarmed by the outbreak of the new coronavirus in neighboring Italy, are in daily contact with the World Health Organization and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) “to assess the situation internationally.”
In Italy, the coronavirus cases exceed 100. Only in the Lombardy region, according to Regional Governor Atiglio Fontana, 89 people have tested positive.
In the meantime, hundreds of tests are being carried out on people who may have come in contact with patients and the results are expected as quickly as possible.
As reported, it is forbidden to enter and exit the villages and towns in which most outbreaks occurred. Anyone who ignores the ban will also be subject to criminal penalties.
