Countdown for Hamas: Trump’s ultimatum and pressure from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey to accept Gaza Peace Plan

1 October, 2025

Global attention has turned once again to Gaza, as U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled a comprehensive 20-page peace plan aimed at halting the bloodshed — accompanied by a stern ultimatum. According to Axios and iefimerida.gr, Trump has given Hamas three to four days to respond positively, warning that if it refuses, “they will pay for it in hell.”

The Trump Plan sets out a roadmap toward de-escalation and reconstruction. It demands the immediate release of 48 hostages within 72 hours, amnesty for Hamas members who surrender their weapons, and the full demilitarization of the Gaza Strip. Governance would be gradually transferred to a transitional technocratic Palestinian administration, operating under international supervision.

In return, Israel would free 250 life-sentence prisoners and 1,700 detainees, and deliver 15 Palestinian bodies for every deceased Israeli hostage. The deal, drafted with U.S. and Middle Eastern diplomatic input, seeks to open a new chapter toward stability after months of devastating conflict.

But Hamas remains divided. Some leaders reportedly view the plan as a potential lifeline, while others reject it outright. Crucially, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey — key regional mediators — are pressing Hamas to accept the proposal. Axios reports that these nations have warned Hamas that rejecting the offer could deepen its isolation and justify further Israeli offensives.

Opposition comes mainly from smaller Palestinian factions, such as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and Islamic Jihad, who denounce the proposal as a “surrender.” Yet the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, and the clock is ticking.

Hamas is expected to issue a formal response within days. A positive outcome could mark the first substantial peace effort after a year of relentless warfare, civilian suffering, and geopolitical upheaval across the Middle East.
