Deceptive messages from a fake email account using the name of the Archbishop of Australia

19 November, 2024

The Holy Archdiocese of Australia, upon becoming aware of incidents involving the sending of deceptive messages from an email account that falsely claims the ecclesiastical title and name of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios (“Archbishop Makarios”, with the email address: myofficreplymail409@gmail.com), wishes to alert the faithful and the general public to avoid being deceived by the fraudsters who have committed identity theft.

Potential recipients of messages from the above-mentioned fake account are urged to ignore them and, in general, to exercise heightened caution, carefully assess the content of any such messages and, under no circumstances, provide personal information if requested. If deemed necessary, they may contact the offices of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia by phone.

The Holy Archdiocese is taking action with the relevant authorities to investigate the case of identity theft.
