Food For Thought Network launches 2026 theme: ‘The Evolution of Hellenism – Family and Identity in the Diaspora’
The Food For Thought Network (FFTN) is set to launch its 2026 theme, “The Evolution of Hellenism: Family and Identity in the Diaspora,” through a vibrant new program of intergenerational conversations.
The opening event in the series, titled “From Yiayia to Gen Z,” celebrates the strength of connection across generations — from grandparents in their 80s to Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z — representing communities from metropolitan Melbourne to regional Victoria.
The discussion will delve into how each generation has experienced and expressed Hellenism: from the early migrants who worked to preserve language and traditions, to Gen Xers navigating life between two cultures, and the younger generations redefining Greek identity in an increasingly global and digital world.
“This is a theme that speaks to all of us,” said FFTN founder Varvara Athanasiou-Ioannou AM. “Each of us carries a story shaped by heritage, lived experience, and the evolving journey of Hellenism in the diaspora — how we’ve kept it alive while continuing to adapt and enrich it across time and place.”
The discussion will be moderated by lawyer Eleni Karagiozaki, with a diverse panel featuring Katina Reraki, Tasos Kolokotronis, Kali Koulouri, Sotiris Hatzimanolis, Stella Grammenou-Dimadi, Dr. Melina Mallou, Jamie Gallos, and Dimitra (Demi) Bourdopoulou.
Artistic highlights include a song performance by Anthe Sidiropoulou and poetry by Maria Kampyli, adding a creative dimension to the afternoon.
“Our speakers will ignite conversations that extend beyond this event — not just during the networking that follows, but within your homes and families,” said FFTN Secretary Vicky Alikakos. “This will be more than just a gathering; it will be a shared experience.”
Guests can look forward to a warm and engaging afternoon filled with meaningful dialogue, live storytelling, and opportunities for relaxed networking — all while exploring how each generation continues to shape and redefine Greek identity through its own lived experiences.
