Fronditha Care was the stand-out winner at ACSA’s Victorian Aged Care Awards 2019 on Friday 9 August. The organisation won two of four awards at this year’s industry event putting Fronditha Care at the forefront for innovation in service and individual contribution in aged care in Victoria.
The Employee of the Year Award went to Khoryom Tut Nyon, who is a personal care worker at Fronditha Care’s 60-bed facility in Lower Templestowe, STORGI.
As a South Sudanese refugee, Tut has overcome incredible adversity and through the understanding, love, care and patience he displays daily in his care of elderly Greeks he has gained the love and trust of the elderly residents and their families. Fronditha Care nominated Tut for the ACSA award after he received the organisation’s Contribution of the Year Award in 2018, nominated by the families of those he cares for.
He has affected many people in a positive way, breaking down prejudice and racist attitudes amongst the community towards the African community.
The Team Award went to Fronditha Care Clayton’s Lifestyle and Activities team for their service innovation. The team was recognised for the innovative program they run that has respect for and the celebration of the Greek cultural heritage of the elderly residents they care for at its core. What Fronditha Care does in this space is truly unique in the industry, hence, the organisation being recognised in this way.
Moreover, Vivi Mihailidou, the coordinator of the team is a recent immigrant, who settled in Australia as a personal care worker on the Labour Agreement Fronditha Care has with the Federal Government. She is now a Support Services Coordinator.
For Tut and Vivi to come so far and to gain industry accolades for their work in their adopted country is very special, work that contributes daily to the care of our elders.
Jim Scantsonihas, Acting CEO attended the awards and stated:
“There are many people employed in the aged care industry who do wonderful things on a daily basis that benefit the people they care for. As we all know there is not a lot of coverage about the good things that happen in aged care. It is fantastic to have these industry awards to recognise staff in all areas for their hard work.
We are so proud of them and will continue to support them in striving for better outcomes for our residents. Fronditha Care congratulates all of the winners and nominees for their outstanding efforts.”
Fronditha Care is very proud and very humbled to see its work in the provision of culturally appropriate care being recognised.
Watch this space as the Clayton Lifestyle and Activities team and Tut are now the Victorian finalists in their award categories in the upcoming National ACSA Awards 2019 in October.
