Greece crashes out: Turkey dominates 94-68 – Bronze medal battle awaits against Finland

13 September, 2025

Greece’s men’s basketball team suffered a crushing 94-68 defeat to Turkey in the EuroBasket 2025 semifinals in Riga, ending their hopes of reaching a final for the first time in sixteen years.

Ergin Ataman’s Turkish squad controlled the game from the outset, exploiting Greece’s defensive weaknesses and executing a well-prepared strategy. Giannis Antetokounmpo fought valiantly, but lacked sufficient support, as Turkey’s superior teamwork and offensive precision proved decisive.

Quarter scores: 16-26, 31-49, 51-72, 68-94. Turkey will face reigning world champions Germany on Sunday (14/9, 21:00) in the final, aiming for their first-ever EuroBasket gold and second overall medal after their 2001 silver.

Greece will now compete for bronze against Finland (14/9, 17:00), hoping to secure their third EuroBasket bronze (after 1949 and 2009) and sixth overall medal (gold: 1987, 2005; silver: 1989). The match is viewed as vital for rebuilding team morale and reaffirming Greece’s place among Europe’s basketball elite.
