Greek-Australian fundraising backs rising tennis star Odysseas Geladaris for Australia 2026

12 December, 2025

Greek-Australian fundraising backs rising tennis star Odysseas Geladaris for Australia 2026, as a grassroots campaign has been launched to support the 17-year-old Greek tennis player ahead of his planned competitions in early 2026.

Geladaris, currently ranked around No. 139 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Juniors, is set to compete in the J300 Traralgon Junior Tournament and the Australian Open Juniors qualifiers — two critical events that could define his transition into professional tennis.

The initiative, organised by Greek-Australian community member Haris Manaras, aims to raise approximately A$7,000 to cover travel, accommodation, and coaching expenses for Geladaris and his coach while in Victoria. The campaign has quickly gained momentum within the Greek-Australian community, drawing strong support from across the diaspora.

Among the notable supporters is tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas, who has reportedly made a private contribution to assist the Geladaris family — a gesture reflecting his commitment to nurturing young Greek talent and ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder promising athletes.

The campaign also highlights the broader challenge facing junior tennis players worldwide. With minimal institutional support, young athletes and their families often shoulder enormous costs for international competition, training, and travel. For Geladaris, this community-driven effort represents both a lifeline and a symbol of unity, showcasing how the global Greek community continues to stand behind its next generation of sporting talent.
