Greek giants fall short in Euroleague and shift focus to the domestic glory

28 May, 2025

The Euroleague Final Four concluded in disappointment for Greek basketball, as both Olympiakos and Panathinaikos, dominant forces throughout the regular season and playoffs, failed to reach the final.

Despite their strong campaigns, both teams were eliminated in the semifinals, ending their European dreams for the season.

In the third-place game, Olympiakos edged out archrival Panathinaikos 97–93 in Abu Dhabi, in what turned out to be an unusually high-scoring and entertaining showdown between the “Eternal Rivals.” Although the match carried little competitive significance, it served as a spirited display of pride and passion from both squads.

With the Euroleague now behind them, the focus shifts to the domestic stage. The two powerhouses will face off once more in the finals of the Greek Basket League (GBL), in what promises to be an intense and closely fought battle for national supremacy.

The GBL finals, a best-of-five series, will tip off on Friday, May 30. Panathinaikos, having secured the higher seed, will enjoy home-court advantage and host Game 1. Both teams will be eager to redeem their Euroleague setbacks and claim the coveted Greek title
