Hamas is reportedly preparing to respond positively to U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for ending the war in Gaza, while submitting a series of requested changes, particularly concerning Israel’s withdrawal and the group’s disarmament, according to Times of Israel.
A source familiar with the talks told the outlet that Arab mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey have been holding intensive discussions with Hamas leaders in Doha, and a formal response could come within hours. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already accepted the plan, while several Arab nations have expressed cautious support.
The amendments Hamas seeks are largely aimed at easing last-minute provisions inserted by Netanyahu — measures that slow down Israel’s troop withdrawal and tighten demands for full disarmament and the demilitarization of Gaza.
Under the U.S. proposal, Hamas must release all hostages within 72 hours, surrender its weapons, and agree to play no role in Gaza’s future governance. In exchange, the war would officially end, and Israeli forces would gradually withdraw, to be replaced by an international peacekeeping force.
President Trump said on Tuesday that Hamas has three to four days to respond and emphasized that there is little room for renegotiation.
However, according to the BBC, Hamas’s de facto leader in Gaza, Izz al-Din Haddad, has signaled opposition, claiming the plan is designed to eliminate Hamas regardless of its cooperation. Another senior Hamas official told the Associated Press that several points are “unacceptable” and require revision, adding that an official response will follow consultations with other Palestinian factions.
Qatar, a key intermediary in previous ceasefire negotiations, has reportedly reached out to Washington to discuss potential revisions to maintain the viability of the agreement.
Observers say Hamas’s response could reshape the trajectory of the Gaza conflict, determining whether the war moves toward a political resolution or drags on amid regional instability.
