Leonidas Vlachakis, President of the GCM Cultural Committee, on 3XY Radio Hellas

17 February, 2025

“The Antipodes Festival returns dynamically with Rena Morfi and exciting surprises”

The Antipodes Festival, the largest celebration of Greek culture in Melbourne, is making a dynamic return for its 37th year, promising unique moments of entertainment and cultural enrichment next weekend, February 22 and 23, 2025.

Featuring a wide array of artists, musicians, dance troupes, and competitions, the Festival is set to energize not only the Greek community but also a diverse audience from all walks of life.

In an exclusive interview with 3XY Radio Hellas about the Festival, Leonidas Vlachakis, the event organizer, shared the latest details and his high expectations for this year’s celebration. He noted that preparations are in full swing, with the Festival this year boasting 95 stalls and an enhanced production designed to cater to every taste.

Expected to attract thousands of visitors, the Antipodes Festival will host three stages brimming with music and dance, showcasing both traditional and contemporary Greek melodies. In particular, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a concert by Rena Morphi, the headlining artist of this year’s event. Vlachakis emphasized that Morphi’s voice and repertoire perfectly blend tradition with the modern Greek music scene, making her especially appealing to the younger generation.

Rena Morphi, renowned for her distinguished musical career, will present a program featuring both time-honored favorites and newer compositions. Attracting youth is one of the Festival’s main goals, especially after last year’s impressive turnout of young people. The aim is to bring together all generations by merging contemporary musical trends with Greece’s rich traditional heritage.

Among the new features this year is the innovative “Silent Disco” experience, where participants can dance while listening to music of their choice through headphones, creating a unique and immersive atmosphere. At the same time, the Festival will continue its established activities, such as cooking competitions and the dance contest “Zorba ‘til you Drop”.

As Mr. Vlachakis stated, “The Antipodes Festival is a celebration for the entire community. We want to offer something for everyone. From traditional music and dance to new bands and fresh sounds, our goal is to cater to the tastes of all generations and to continue showcasing Greek culture within our diaspora”.

The interview concluded with an invitation to all Melburnians—and beyond—to join this annual celebration, now a cherished institution, and to enjoy a weekend filled with music, dance, Greek flavors, and countless surprises.

Mark your calendars for a rendezvous in the heart of Melbourne on the weekend of February 22–23, 2025, for a Festival that promises to exceed every expectation. For further information follow the link https://www.antipodesfestival.com.au/.
