23 October, 2025

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will participate today Thursday in the European People’s Party Summit and the European Council meeting, where key topics will include defense, security, competitiveness, the green transition, the Middle East, and migration.

Regarding defense and security, discussions will focus on the next steps for implementing the EU Defense Readiness Roadmap 2030, recently unveiled. The Prime Minister is expected to stress the need for a “360-degree” approach, ensuring that new European defense capabilities protect all member states, from the eastern to southern borders.

On competitiveness and the dual transition (green and digital), Mitsotakis is expected to highlight the importance of a common European energy market and market integration via interconnections and networks, aiming to reduce energy costs in Southeastern Europe.

Concerning the green transition and decarbonization, he will emphasize the need for pragmatism, balancing ambitious targets with social cohesion. Mitsotakis elaborated on this in an article in the Financial Times, calling for greater flexibility to achieve the European Union’s goals.
