The US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an agency led by Elon Musk tasked with reducing government expenditure. Musk’s DOGE cancels $25K LGBTQ, refugee funds in Greece. Announced on X that it has cancelled a $25,000 award intended to support LGBTQ refugees in Greece.
DOGE’s post on X explained: “While reviewing our records, the team identified a $25,000 award titled ‘Empowering LGBTQIA+ Refugees in Greece’—designed to provide material, legal, and psychological support to LGBTQIA+ asylum seekers and refugees, as well as to raise civil society’s awareness of the issues faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. This award has now been cancelled.”
Critics argue that these funds are part of a broader social engineering strategy aimed at altering the cultural and demographic character of nations. By targeting support for LGBTQ refugees, such financial initiatives are seen as attempts to reshape societal norms and influence immigration patterns, potentially transforming the host country’s cultural landscape.
The announcement followed a letter from MEP Emanouil Fragkos of the nationalist Greek Solution party, who urged Musk to have DOGE investigate “US funds to Greek NGOs reserving luxury hotels for illegal migrants.” Fragkos retweeted DOGE’s update, stating, “Catharsis, we bring change.”
According to USA Spending—the official open data source for federal expenditure—the award recipient, which received the full sum via the US Embassy in Athens in September 2024, will have its 2025 funding cancelled.
Elon Musk has also responded to a query from Greek EU Parliamentarian Emmanouil Fragkos of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group regarding US funding interference in Greece. Fragkos, questioning the ‘improper use and corruption of funds from the US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) wasted on luxury hotels for illegal migrants,’ requested details on any instances of misallocated funding. He emphasised that “the parallel, yet powerful ‘deep state’ system of corruption and waste of public money, working cross-border to enforce the ideology of unstoppable illegal migration, must be identified and unrooted.”
